Pyridoxal-5-phosphate is the metabolically active form of vitamin B-6. It’s involved in numerous body functions, but it is especially important to protein synthesis, such as in the production of neurotransmitters like serotonin and GABA, antibodies of the immune system, oxygen-hungry muscle cells and oxygen-carrying red blood cells. It is also required for proper fluid and electrolyte balance, controlling potassium and sodium based fluids while helping maintain proper intracellular levels of magnesium.
