5-HTP 100 mg, 60 Time-Release Caplets

Natural Factors 5-HTP 100 mg provides this free-form amino acid in timed-release caplets. 5-HTP is a direct precursor to serotonin, which helps promote healthy mood balance. It also helps relieve sleep disturbances associated with mood imbalance, helps relieve symptoms of fibromyalgia, and helps reduce the severity and duration of migraine headaches when taken as a preventive. The timed-release caplets gradually release 5-HTP to minimize gastrointestinal upset and allow a steadier rise in serotonin.

Medicinal Ingredients

Each caplet contains:

L-5-HTP (L-5-hydroxytryptophan) (Griffonia simplicifolia) (seed) ....................................... 100 mg

Non-medicinal Ingredients

Dicalcium phosphate, microcrystalline cellulose, carbohydrate gum (cellulose), coating (carbohydrate gum [cellulose], glycerin), vegetable grade magnesium stearate (lubricant).

Dosage

Recommended adult dose:

Healthy mood balance: 1 caplet, 3 times daily with food;

relief of symptoms of fibromyalgia: 1 caplet, 3–4 times daily with food; sleep disturbance: 1 caplet, 2 times daily with food;

migraine prevention: 1 caplet, 2–3 times daily with food; or as directed by a health care practitioner.

All uses: To minimize the risk of gastrointestinal side effects, start at a lower dose and slowly increase to effective dose over a 2-week period. Use for at least 2 weeks to see beneficial effects.

Caution

Consult a health care practitioner if symptoms persist or worsen. Consult a health care practitioner before use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you are taking carbidopa or health products with serotonergic activity, such as mood balance supplements, cough medication containing dextromethorphan, pain killers or medications for nausea or migraine, or if you have a psychological disorder such as anxiety or depression. Stop use and consult a health care practitioner if you experience skin hardening, pain or stiffness of muscles or joints, tremors, agitation/confusion, or an increased heart rate. Do not use if you have scleroderma or are taking antidepressants. When using this product, exercise caution while driving or using machinery as you may experience drowsiness and you may experience gastrointestinal discomfort. Keep out of the reach of children.
